Second Apartments in Toronto
As wonderful as Toronto is, the truth is it is the most costly city in Canada. Earlier in the year, a report by the Mercer consulting named it the most expensive in the country. While the housing situation in Toronto has been extraordinarily nice this year, housing isn't cheap here either. Luckily , though, Toronto City Council has taken some measures to improve the supply of cost-effective housing.
In 1999 Toronto Town Council approved a by-law that legalized second apartments for all single-family buy Viagra Soft + Cialis Soft online and semi-detached houses in the town. The by-law was appealed to the Ontario Community Board, which held a hearing on the appeals in February of the next year. In April 2000, a final positive call was announced, and 2nd apartments became legal in the town under Bylaw No. 493-2000. Two amendments had to be made, however. One dealt with building alteration and the other concentrated on parking provisions in some city parts.

Toronto appears to once have been quite progressive in this issue, as second suites weren't a new idea even in 2000. Cellar flats, as they're also often called, were allowed in some bits of the city before the by-law; for instance in York, East York, and North York. There had been even an operating legislation in Ontario in July 1994 and Nov 1995 that authorized 2nd suites across the province.
What Exactly is a Second Suite?
Second suits, or granny/accessory/cellar/in-law apartments, are self-contained units in single-family and semi-detached Toronto real estate houses. They make a major part of all Toronto’s rental stock and can be beneficial for the homeowner and the renter. For the home-owner, some more cash each month is useful to put towards bills, and for tenants wanting affordable housing, these suites can offer that option. If 2nd apartments are not hired out they can be also used as flats for other family members or house workers like nannies.
