Crossing the border (frontera) from one country to another in Central America is relatively easy except going into Costa Rica. From Guatemala to Costa Rica you can pretty much drive the PanAmericana Highway all the way without going through long border crossings.

It’s not that Costa Rica would not like the convenience. I don’t think they are ready for it.Travelling to Costa Rica by road is another adventure they decided for you.

It becomes a little bit more complicated when driving your wehicle across the border. If you are thinking about taking another person’s vehicle… If at all possible, you do not want to do that.

After you have paid for the entrance into the boarder you must go to the offices where you obtain a free customs form. This is in the building where you see all of the buses lined up in the center. In order to register where you have been, where you are going and where you are from….

Before getting to the next stop which is the exit post; everthing has to be approved so that you receive a vehicle exit ticket.
